There were 36 green thumbs and the people attached to them Friday morning assembling the 32 hanging baskets that will decorate the lamp posts around the courthouse square in Jefferson.
It took the crew of 15 adults and one small child only an hour to plant the baskets. Purple petunias and sweet potato vines are featured this year. Jefferson Matters: Main Street program director Peg Raney said the baskets provide “a little bit of Americana right here in Jefferson.”
The baskets are a joint project of Jefferson Matters: Main Street and the city of Jefferson. Jean Walker arranged for the supplies, and the city crew’s share of the project is to hang the baskets and keep them watered throughout the summer.
“Thanks for making Jefferson a beautiful place to be,” Raney said.
